On the evening of June 12, 2008, New Life Church, along with many homes and businesses was deluged with water, the largest flood in the history of Coralville/Iowa City. Thankfully, no lives were lost and nearly all of our belongings were moved out (thanks to those who responded immediately). We grieve with those who were not as fortunate, however, as much damage was done to our neighborhood.
Throughout the summer and fall, New Life maintained its worship and ministries in places like the Coralville Public Library, the Sycamore 12 Theatres and ParTee Zone, and Nations Worship Church. A very generous gift from a NW Iowa family helped us get some much needed sound and lights equipment and Crossroads Church from Norwalk loaned us a trailer. Other people and churches came along offering storage and gifts to help us recover. We couldn't have done this without everyone's help!
When it came to restoring the building, we once again made it a joint venture between us, our landlord and dozens of volunteers from around the MidWest. We "mucked out" the building, sanitized and/or tossed out ruined items, rebuilt the insides from the floor up, and eventually moved back in on Nov 9. Through it all, we learned how blessed we are to have this building, how many friends and supporters we have, and how God can carry us through the worst of disasters.
